PC16S-wave RS: Precise measurement of coatings on metallic substrates

The PC16S-wave RS is a reflexion sensor that measures the surface weight or thickness of coating on metallic substrates, using non-ionising, electromagnetic waves  for the contact-free measuring process. This is why it is perfect for the accurate and rapid measurement of polymer-based coatings.

Compared with sensors based on ionising radiation, the national or international official requirements in this respect in terms of transport, operation and disposal do not apply to this sensor. It's outstanding EMC properties make PC16-wave RS a harmless and reliable choice for a wide range of measurement tasks. There is no interference with other devices and no health hazards.

Measuring process

In a non-contact distance of 10mm, the sensor sends out electromagnetic waves who will hit the surface of the polymer-based coating. The reflexion of the waves will determin the absorption of the coating and generate information about the surface weight and thickness. The absoption of the signal depends on the basis weight and the composition of the measured material. A time-resolved measurement of the signal detects its absorption and provides precise results.
